Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship

Upon successful completion of this course you will achieve a Level 4 Professional Technician Apprenticeship Standard and the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting.

You will develop your core accounting knowledge across the wide range of fields that make up the accounting world, such as financial accounting, management accounting and taxation. Learning along the way, different regulations, processes and ethical standards required of a professional accountant.

The skills required for a professional accountant will also be reinforced, both at college and the workplace; analysis, communication, teamworking and using various systems and process.

Finally, the behaviours required for a professional accountant will also be reinforced and promoted with the apprentice. This involves the abilities to be proactive, adaptable and employing the accounting concept of professional scepticism.

We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this apprenticeship through our Online and On Campus model. Apprentices study online materials during allotted time at work, and also attend regular sessions with a college tutor.

Online lessons can be accessed at any time, using a mobile, tablet or desktop - meaning apprentices can fit their study around work commitments, minimising disruption in the workplace. Each lesson lasts around 45 minutes and is accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Exercises, interactive case studies and analytical tools help to enhance the learning experience further.

On campus, apprentices benefit from regular classes with an experienced college tutor, either in-person or virtually. A combination of tutor-led work, group exercises and discussion encourages apprentices to apply theory to real-life workplace situations.

This modern, flexible approach to apprenticeship training empowers learners, minimises disruption to employers, and delivers tangible results in the workplace.

• The syllabus that you will be assessed on includes mandatory and optional units as follows:

Mandatory Units:

• • Drafting and interpreting financial statements
  • Applied management accounting

Optional Units; Choose from two of the following:

• • Personal Tax
  • Business Tax
  • Cash and financial management
  • Credit and debt management
  • Audit and assurance

End point assessment:

• • Knowledge based exam
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Professional discussion/interview

The Professional accounting or tax technician standard allows student registration with a number of UK professional bodies in this sector. If a candidate seeks to become a member of a professional body there may be other requirements specific to the relevant professional body, which may be taken as part of, or alongside, the apprenticeship at the employer’s and candidate’s discretion. 
 
Completion of the professional accounting technician apprenticeship may lead to the candidate receiving credits towards the completion of the Professional accountant apprenticeship or chartered Accountancy or taxation qualifications provided by the relevant professional bodies.  Completion of the professional accounting technician apprenticeship may also result in credits being awarded towards relevant undergraduate degree programmes. 

No formal Maths & English study is required for apprentices who have met the entry requirements for this apprenticeship, although Maths & English skills are embedded within course content.

Your employer will pay you Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage as a minimum, in line with national minimum wage regulations. Your rate of pay will be agreed with your employer.
