Be head and shoulders above the rest on this hairdressing course, which follows the latest trends and is an ideal first step into this fast-paced sector.

Learn vital salon skills, including shampooing and conditioning, styling women’s hair, colouring hair using temporary colour, plaiting and twisting.

This qualification has been designed to prepare you for employment as a supervised assistant / apprentice or for further learning in the hairdressing and beauty therapy industries within college.

Guest speakers are booked in during the academic year to enhance your learning experience and knowledge. You will also have the opportunity to go to Hair shows which are held in Manchester and Birmingham throughout the academic year.

You will take part in competitions in house, across our colleges and have the opportunity to enter the world skills competitions. This will prepare you to work in a competitive environment whilst enhancing your professionalism, communication and working as part of a team.

4 GCSEs at grade 2/1 (E/F)

What will I achieve?

Work experience opportunities

The expectation is that all learners will complete one full day per week of work placement during the academic year. Learners are advised to seek work placement ready for starting the course at interview stage.

English and Maths

Hairdressing relies on maths and English and both subjects will be embedded into your programme through the use of measurements and mixing dyes.

If you have not yet achieved GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4 or above, you will be supported to achieve this.

Where can I progress?

On successful completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to progress to the following qualifications:

Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques
Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing
Level 2 Certificate in Hair and Media Make Up
