More about the course

From make-up to massage, facials to electrotherapy, a career in the beauty industry is varied and exciting. If you want to turn your passion into a successful career as a beauty therapist, this Beauty course will help you get there.

This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty therapist including providing body massage, face and body electrotherapy, health and safety and client care.

You will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, and beauty therapy products and equipment. As well as learn how to prepare for Swedish Body Massage, Face and Body Electrical Therapy, Indian Head Massage, Microdermabrasion and Stone Therapy.

You will have the opportunity to go to beauty shows which are held in Manchester and Birmingham throughout the year, and take part in competitions in house, across our colleges and have the opportunity to enter the world skills competitions.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English and maths
Level 2 Beauty Therapy and associated Functional Skills in English and maths
A high standard of personal hygiene, commitment to the course and a friendly personality
Applicants will also need to complete a skills test

Work experience opportunities

Working in our Essence Salon, you will gain experience providing treatments to real paying clients. Here you will get to grips with industry standard products and tools, helping you to build your confidence and communication skills.

English and Maths

English and maths skills are important in the beauty industry, whether you are working in a spa or as a self-employed beauty therapist.

These skills are embedded into your course through client communication, booking and organising of diaries, treatment and product costings and product mixing ratios.

If you do not currently hold 4 GCSEs in these subjects you will be supported to achieve them alongside your course.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to progress to the following qualifications:

Level 4 HE Aesthetics Practices and Business management

Beauty Tutor

I studied Beauty Therapy at Carlisle College 17 years ago. After gaining my qualification I had a wonderful career in the beauty industry, working as a beauty therapist, a development therapist and senior therapist. I gained experience in high street salons, award winning spas and on board cruise ships. 4 years ago I returned to Carlisle College to complete my teacher training. I now feel extremely lucky to be one of those tutors who can share my experiences, passion, skills and knowledge with the current beauty therapy students.

Every Life Matters attended the college to deliver sessions on Suicide Awareness to over 160 students from our Hair & Beauty and Health & Social Care courses.
