More about the course

Prepare for your future in Health and Social Care by developing your skills and knowledge with this BTEC course.

This course will prepare you for both employment within the sector, apprenticeships within the sector and higher education, including the second year of the programme.

This course gives students the opportunity to include a placement as a Nurse Cadet at the Cumberland Infirmary to gain experience in a wide range of health settings such as orthopaedics, coronary care, medical, outpatient, surgical, midwifery and elderly care wards.

You will learn a variety of key subject areas in health and social care such as equality, diversity and rights, safeguarding, communication, psychological perspectives, human growth and development and infection prevention.

Entry requirements

Completion of Level 3 BTEC 90-Credit National Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care
5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) and above, including English, maths, science, and two other academic subjects
The course requires students to complete up to 100 hours work placement per year in an appropriate setting, which may involve work with children or vulnerable adults
You must obtain a satisfactory up-to-date DBS check

Where Can I Progress?

On successful completion of this course, you may choose to go on and study at university, including a Foundation Degree / Degree in nursing, midwifery, radiography or social work, or go straight into employment within the NHS or private sector, including support work, residential homes, care homes and assisted living facilities.
