More about the course

This course is designed to prepare students for work within a variety of the uniformed services. It is ideal for students who are intending to progress directly to employment or further study.

The qualification is intended as an applied general qualification and is designed to be studied over one year with an option to progress on to the extended diploma. The qualification relates directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers in the uniformed services.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) and above, including Maths and English.

Work experience opportunities

You will be required to complete a work placement of 18 hours.

English and Maths

The ability to accurately record and communicate information is essential in Uniformed Protected Services and we will help you to develop your language skills to improve your ability.

We'll also develop your math skills through fun activities, where you will be tasked to solve problems by devising strategies. You will gain a better understanding of things like orientation, space, time and speed.

Where can I progress?

On successful completion of this course you can progress onto the Extended Diploma. Alternatively you can enter into a wide range of career opportunities. From designated public service roles, uniform and non-uniform, for example; local council, local government, and private security.

Students can also progress onto university to study a variety of subject areas.

Public Services Employer Encounters

This term in Uniformed Public Services we have had a number of employer encounters with some of the local public services. This has included visits to Penrith and Patterdale Mountain Rescue, the Cumbria Fire Service, Cumbria Police dogs and Maryport Lifeboat Rescue.
