We had a wonderful time at our Apprenticeship Awards celebrating apprentices, staff and employers who have gone above and beyond to champion apprenticeships as a career route.

The awards recognise hard work, excellence and the valuable relationships we have with learners and employers.

Nominations were made by Carlisle College staff, employers and apprentices before being shortlisted by the College’s Senior Leadership Team.

Lisa Ellis, motor vehicle technician at Halfords, was nominated by their training advisor and Carlisle College principal, Sarah McGrath, as Apprentice of the Year.

Lisa was chosen based on the hard work and dedication they have shown to their apprenticeship, their aspirations to never give up and inspirational personal story.

Lisa Ellis said: “Thanks to Carlisle College for the opportunity and to Andy Wood for nominating me. I felt very honoured to be nominated for this award and never imagined I would go on to win not only one but two awards, I was overwhelmed!”

Main supporter Persimmon Homes, and category supporters CITB, Eddie Wannop Ltd, Inspira, DMB Building Ltd, Cavaghan & Gray, Mindful Education, WCF, The Cumberland, Autoexel and H&H Insurance Brokers, all attended the event.

Vicky Stafford, business engagement manager at Carlisle College said: “We were delighted to be able to celebrate the achievements of our apprenticeship community at Carlisle College for the second year running.

“It’s thanks to our valued sponsors and partners that we are able to come together for such a special evening. We were proud to welcome a room full of incredibly worthy finalists and share the inspiring stories of our winners.”

Throughout National Apprenticeship Week, Carlisle College hosted information sessions in College and within community for parents and young people to tell them about the benefits of apprenticeships and offer guidance on career paths and opportunities available.

Here at Carlisle College, we are proud to work with local business and students to provide an invaluable service to the Cumbrian community with the development of our apprentices. At this time of year it is great to see apprentices and employers alike recognised for their great work in the past year.
